How we began...
On Palm Sunday in 2000, Alden Community Church had its first service. Barry and Beth Whitworth came from Maryland and believed God wanted them to plant a church in a church that sat vacant for 3 years that was previously called Sullivan Road Baptist Church.
Attendance grew very rapidly and within 6 months our service was moved to Alden Intermediate School as we added 10,000 sq. ft. to our existing building.
We had help from many churches and people from all over the country as we did most of the labor for construction.
ACC was started as a Southern Baptist Church with help financially to support 2 full time pastors, as Matt Gold joined the team in October of 2000.
We moved into the new facility in early 2003 with so much excitement! Not too long after we moved in, the Whitworths felt called by God to move to Pennsylvania to be their church planter for the association.
Many incredible, God-sized things happened over the next few years, even though our attendance had dropped.
An anonymous donor paid off the church's remaining mortgage of $125,000... to God be the Glory!
We also purchased the corner property that used to have 5 modular homes on it.
We received a call from Alden State Bank which told us we had 2 weeks to come up with $60,000 or the new glass company next door was going to put their office building there.
There are 3 additional God-sized things that ACC has accomplished worth mentioning:
1. Giving to missions.
We have made it a huge priority to give back because God has blessed us so much more than we deserve.
We have worked our way to giving annually to mission groups and missionaries 22% of our offering. Something that we feel very blessed to accomplish.
2. Missions Trips.
We have taken groups to the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and recently, Panama. A few of these trips have had as many as 30 people going, again to God be the glory.
3. Rodeo.
We have hosted the Cross Over The Line Rodeo Co. for 3 summers, and it has been one of the greatest things we have done as a church, for many reasons.
• We've had anywhere from 200-500 people on our property for 15 Saturdays out of each of these last 3 summers.
• The gospel was presented every Saturday during intermission to all those who attended.
• It is a beautiful thing to watch 20-30 volunteers working side-by-side each and every rodeo. It has strengthened our church in a miraculous way and many have been to church on Sunday as a result of hosting the rodeo.
There are obviously many other milestones that have happened over the last 23 years - this is just a little snapshot of some of the highlights.
ACC can be described as a small church that does great things for an even greater God! To Him be all the glory!
